In the Grey collected just $0.7M on its second day, bringing the cumulative total to $2.9M. Guy Ritchie’s new action thriller has entered theatres with noticeably weak momentum, and the sharp drop from opening day has already triggered concern within the industry.

The film carries many of Ritchie’s signature traits — quick cuts, stylish violence, and a dry sense of humour — yet none of these elements appear to have translated into strong audience turnout. Henry Cavill’s star power and the director’s brand have not been enough to pull in significant numbers, especially when placed against a crowded upcoming slate.

At a reported $60M budget, this kind of opening leaves almost no room for error. Most mid-budget action films in this range need at least a $12–15M opening weekend to have any realistic chance of breaking even theatrically. Unless reviews generate unexpected word-of-mouth, the film looks headed for a very short run.

Early concern: A nearly 37% drop on the second day for a film of this scale is a clear red flag. Without a dramatic turnaround in the coming weekend, In the Grey risks becoming one of the quieter disappointments of the summer season.
